Hooping 101: Beginner tricks

Everyone has seen or tried hula hooping around their waist, but there’s so much more you can do with a hoop! Here are some of our favourite beginner tricks.

skipping
Skipping through the hoop:
Hold the hoop in front of you with both hands, and jump through with both feet. Rotate it around you like a skipping rope and repeat
Passing around: Hold the hoop parallel to the ground, and with one hand swing it around behind you. Grab it with the other hand to bring it back to the front. Repeat, swinging the hoop around in full circles

Cancan: This uses the same technique as passing around, but you lift one leg up at the front and swap hands underneath it.

Hooping overhead: Start with the hoop to one side, parallel to the ground, and swing it around and overhead, continuing to hoop around one hand.
